manual 240D -- cruise control?

Dumb question... did the W123 240D ever come equipped from the factory with cruise? I am acquiring a 4 speed 240D and would love to find a cruise setup for it if such a beast exists. My 300D had one, but that was a whole different beast.

Thanks!

Chris

My '83 240 manual does not have it. hope you will be driving it somewhere with no hills. Cruise would do me no good at all in these parts.

Cheers,

Bill

Central IL is as flat as it gets! I drive 2+ hours each way to Guard duty at least once a month, so it would be nice to have the "auto pilot" feature then. I can make that drive with my eyes shut... incredibly boring. Trouble is, I am always in a hurry to get there and to get home, so I rarely take the "scenic" routes through the country, which is my usual strategy. Take my time, see nature at its best, and relax.

If you get a cruise control system from a car with an automatic transmission, make sure to add a switch at the clutch pedal. Probably an obvious point to most people. It wasn't obvious to me at first.

Is yours manual? Come to think of it, I think the car I am getting WAS an automatic and was converted to stick. The paddle and wiring may still be in the steering column.

Sounds perfect for a 240 with cruise!

Yes, a switch on the clutch is a must. thats why i said it would do me no good at all. I'm always shifting to climb hills.

Scenic routes is all we have in this area!

Cheers,

Bill

When I had my '78 240D, it didn't have cruise control. I suppose it was added to later year cars. Considering the amount of trouble with the MB system, I would seriously consider an after-market cruise control. Do a search on this forum for cruise control systems. Might be quite a bit simpler to install too. Be sure to add the clutch switch as mentioned in above posts.

just my $.02,
Wes

My 1981 240D has a factory manual transmission and cruise control. The cruise will catch and "hold" the speed briefly before the car slowly decelerates. I'm not sure if this is an amp problem or if it is an actuator problem. I'll get around to finding out later. I really don't miss it much. I think someone else on the forum referred to the only viable cruise control option for a 240D was a "brick on the pedal."
