The better side of E-Bay

Ever since I joined this forum I've been hearing a lot of bad stories about people getting burned on E-Bay. I've got a couple I'd just as soon keep to myself. Nevertheless, I do have some rather remarkable successes sometimes. Here is one of them:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=7533321482&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT

This is a brand new TIF R12 Contamination Detector selling for about $300.00 (originally it listed for over $600.00). I just received it this evening for a whopping total of $63 after shipping! Might just go such some good R12 out of the junk yard (provided it passes the test (or Larry tells me this model isn't any good and I'd be a fool to do that).

On another auction I got the 617.95X service manual for $4.95 because the seller (an estate broker) misspelled a couple of words.

The deals are out there if you look.

Got any to share?

My best buy was a pair of new-in-the-box Febi W123 subframe bushings for $1. I bid $50, but I was the only bidder.

Another one was a new OEM VW Cabriolet front fender for $1 (+$19 for shipping). It just happened to be the exact one I needed.

It seems good deals a few and far between. Just like any other bazaar.

The twist here is deals r made without seeing the other person or physically inspecting the products. It is easier to get swindled.

Anyway, why the defense of Ebay ? If some say they suck or had good luck, how does it warrant a post to sing their praises ?

Is there more than meets the eye ?

I've had great luck with ebay...

bag of about 9 switches from a 123 for $12 delivered ( I needed the hazzard switch that sells for over $20 typically and it's in like new condition...not to mention the sunroof switch I used in my 126 and opened my roof for the first time since I bought it 16 months ago).

126 power steering pump, under $20 delivered, 30 minutes to install, no more leaks.

Headlight for SWMBO's van...retails for over $200, I got one in like new condition for under $70 delivered.

Like new radiator for 123/126 for $60. Looks brand new inside and out.

I had more, but that's a good representation.

Why the post praising ebay....well I'm glad to share my good news...It gets old only hearing the problems....

Well, that's the reason - I was getting tired of hearing only problems.

The best purchase I got from ebay was my rims. I bought 17" Brabus Monoblock VI rims for $740 shipped! They were brand new in the original boxes with lugnuts.

wow, I actually looked at that and thought "nah, no way would I be able to pick that up for like $50. Good for you. I don't E-bay much, but I have. I'm 4 for 4 though. Knock on wood.

I got my Ronal R-9 rims (the ones on my W116) for $250 on ebay...and they have never been refinished by me either, nor in need of it.

It's true what he says - I've seen these rims and they're quite nice.
