w123 shop manual...no info on starter R/R ?

Unless I am really missing it...I can't find info on a starter R/R on the 123 CD.

If that is the case, could someone let me know what needs to come out to get that puppy out and back in.

Thank you
Don

Come on now.

You should be familiar with the search.

Here is a good writeup, done just a few days ago, on the 617 starter in the SD. I'm sure the 300D is very similar.

The space may be much tighter, but, the starter must come out the same way, unless you pull the manifolds.

The writeup regarding the long extensions to reach the two large cap screws is a good one. With the confined space, the exhaust is certain to get in your way.

I found some info where some have pulled the exhaust and dropped suspension components. Others have pulled it out from the top removing lines, hoses, shields and...and....and.

Which is why.....I asked.....

If......

The information is in the shop manual or... if the someone knows the procedure.

I can figure how to do it without the info...

But I prefer to doing the way the factory would call for it... as it would be my hope that would be the quickest way to do it.

Thank you for trying to help.

Don

If/when I have to change mine, I'm going to drop the rear of the tranny down. Pretty easy to do once the exhaust is out of the way. You can get a sweet little tranny jack at Harbor Freight for $50 if you buy it on sale. Otherwise, I've considered removing the motor mounts and just setting the engine down on the front crossmember to get a little more room. NOT a job I'm looking forward to. Put one on my 126, and it was a tight fit. On 123's with the 617, well... tight doesn't do it justice!

Jay.

Sounds like a lot of trouble to change a starter.

Jim, you ever do one on a W123?

If so, what suspension components have to be moved?
