Thumbs up SDL guys, more help please!

I'm trying to remove my belt and replace with new.

Problem is that the tensioner spring and dampner don't seem to be hooked up as they're supposed to be as I see in the pictures. My dampner is bolted to the cylinder head and I'm not quite sure how they're supposed to bolt together.

So if someone with a digicam can snap me a closeup shot of that tensioner spring and dampner assy I'd be grateful to see what I need to purchase to get back in order!

To remove the belt, undo the bolt holding the upper end of the shock to the head. Remove the nut holding the upper spring anchor to the head. You might have to hold the bolt head at the far end. Put a tire iron in the upper spring anchor and tilt it CCW so you can pull the bolt back enough to clear the upper spring achor. Then tilt it CW to unhook the spring. You should be able to slide the belt off the tensioner pulley.

Hrm, so the dampner is bolted to that plastic bracket THEN to the head?

I made arrows to two pieces. X.. what is that? A bolt? XX... is that a metal bracket?

Another problem I have is my intake manifold must have been taken off as the bolt comes via the other side! As of now that dampner isn't bolted to anything...

I've got the same question regarding that metal bracket, "XX". It's on this dampener but is hanging out in the breeze. It's not attached to what appears to be a pin (X) on item 2.

AFAIK, you only need to remove the nut, item 1, take the tension off the spring, and slide the bolt(item 3) rearward. Then you can completely unload the belt tension and replace the belt.

The damper is bolted to the head. It's not connected to the upper spring anchor except through the bracket which isn't a mechanical linkage. The bracket holds the upper spring anchor in place as it pivots about the pin.

It doesn't matter which way the long bolt goes. The first time I had the manifold off I put the bolt from the front thinking that this would allow me to remove the bolt. The next time I had the manifold off I put the bolt from the back because I couldn't figure out why I'd have to remove the bolt

Brian's right. There's no need to unbolt the damper to release the belt.
