Are you CRAZY??

30% RUG/70% VEGGIE OIL is as much GAS as I would add to oil in warm weather

Keep a spare cubbie of WVO with you or use diesel if you think your going to run out of fuel

From my extreme experiments attempting to run waste engine oil as fuel I am guessing that you could do this if you absolutely had to. I wouldn't try it unless I had no other choice.

If I made the mistake of pumping unleaded into my tank instead of diesel I would try to mix in some engine oil, trans oil or fluid, or two stroke oil and carefully drive the car. If the engine clatters too much it will die an ugly death. Your best result may be driving 10mph in the emergency lane with the flashers going.

616/617 injection pump failures are rare but but the lack of lubrication from gasoline is a good point.

A friend of mine inadvertantly put 31 gallons of gas in his Ford diesel pickup. The pump was green (!), but he didn't notice it was gas. He didn't even try to start it. Just called a tow truck and had a shop pump it out and replace the gas with diesel. Another friend got a dose of gas/diesel at a Circle K. We don't know the ratio, but it ran terribly. They denied that it could happen, but there was a tanker unloading when my friend was filling up and we think the delivery guy accidently started putting gas in the diesel storage tank. My friend's truck started running properly again when we filled it 150 miles later.

IMHO Gasoline + Diesel =

Quote from 1980 300 TD owners manual: " If winter diesel is used, there will hardly be any malfunctions at outside temperatures reaching as low as -16 C / +3 F.
Varying with the temperature, add a certain quantity of kerosene, if only No. 2-D summer diesel fuels or less cold resistant winter diesel fuels are available or if temperatures drop below -16 C / +3 F.
If regular gasoline does have to be added, its proportion should not exceed 30%. Premium fuels are not to be used.
Engine power may drop according to the proportion of supplementary fuel." End quote.

You guys religiously quoting the owner's manual have to remember that was written when diesel fuel had probably an order of magnitude more lubricity than it does today. In those days the K1 probably had more lubricity than #2 does today.

What is wrong with calling 1-800-For-Merc to come help you? They give you 3 gals of fuel which at today's prices is a good deal. Further, 3 gals will not contaminate your fuel.

I would assume so. IIRC, I was helped when I ran out of gas one time late in the day. They brought me a few gallons of gas.

Does that include 98/99 diesels? Does SVO make the computer do weird things in the later model diesels?

I have run countless gallons of regular unleaded mixed with oil products of various descriptions through the 617 and have seen no reason to not do so. Never is a strong word. I would never want to wait for roadside help if I could gas-up and go.

I think I feel another experiment coming on.
