Don't I deal with those problems year 'round?? After all, there's only three seasons in Buffalo - late fall, winter, early spring

!$^&() Mr. Winter, I hate you.

I don't like you Mr. Winter. If NASA ever asks for volunteers for a trip to Mercury and a chance to get closer to the sun, I am going. Even on the most humid and oprressive days of summer, I love this weather and the SUN.
I can forsee fixing a Car in the Winter in the dark at 8 pm on my driveway with worklights while around me while I can peer into everyone's living room window and watch everyone spending time with their family.

Even the ice and the wind and even 10 degree weather doesnt stop me. In the end I usually call off work to go back inside with my family.

On a serious note, what would be the best thing to do to protect my car from rust? I can't afford a beater and storage for my diesel this winter and will be forced to drive it. Last winter it was driven but not that much. When it was driven I washed it every week or 2 including the underbody. Is there anything else I can do?

We ought to start a forum betting pool. How many posts between now and Dec. 15th will there be about non-starting diesels that can be traced to bad glow plugs? 20?

Timely post. I flushed the radiator and block of Smash just this morning and got some antifreeze in there.
You don't want to know what color........
[it just had water, and it wasn't what you would call clear]

To do's for winter:
-Check condition of battery and water cell levels, replace with new if necessary
-Make sure glow plugs, fuel system is in order
-Spray undercarriage, rockers, and inside doors with Bar and Chain oil for anti-rust
-Replace rear shocks with Bilstein HD's

Already done:
-Carry around tons of tools, hydraulic bottle jack (for traction and helpfulness!)
-Breaker Bar/Sockets/Torque Wrench for wheels (has proven useful)
-Jumper cables for other motorists
-Aired up spare tire
-extra antifreeze and distilled water

This time I'll be ready, salt.
