Trunk lid seal project questions & photos

I finally got around to finishing this little project. The girlfriend wants the trunk lid out of the bedroom! Go figure!

It has taken me a while to get this far. I forgot I ordered a trunk lid seal from a online catalog so I went an ordered one from the local MB stealership. When I compared the two the one on the right, genuine MB, is about twice the weight. If I do not screw up the good one the other will be up for grabs. The MB one had a almost powder coating on it. Preservative of some sort? I washed it pretty good but is still feels as if some remains. Anyone have any suggestions prior to putting it in?

The trunk lid lip had some rust. Cleaned up the old adhesive and put about 3 coats of POR15. Followed by a top coat of enamel. I am pondering getting matching touch-up paint to cover the black where it will show. Still debating the cost, they really want a lot of $$$$ for that touch-up paint. The only time it would show is when the trunk is open. I hope!

I hope I got the orientation of the seal correct. The tall lip of the seal in the back? I pulled the old one a long time ago and I forgot to get a photo.

I have 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive Black Part # 051135 - 08011. Is that correct? Any tip and tricks for the installation? The seal seems to fit like a charm, if I have the correct orentation. How much adhesive? Did you apply just in the channel or channel and seal? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
jeff

Your right, that touch up paint costs a fortune! We had to buy like 3 containers of it to spray the rear window frame and surrounding areas after its reconstruction on our 83.....its at the glass shop getting the glass back in this very moment.....

Follow the directions on the adhesive tube. When I did mine I applied a pretty decent size bead around the entire trunk lid.

btw let the glue dry completly before you close the trunk lid. If you don't the seal could dry in the wrong position.
