Changing fluid on a manual transmission...help needed

Hi,

I have never changed the fluid on a manual tranny so I am curious if there is anything different from an automatic ? (I know you pour it from underneath but are there any tricks?)

My 190D 2.2 takes 1.5 quarts according to the manual so I orderd two quarts of RedLine MTL Synthetic Fluid that was recommended by you guys.

Will there be enough room to just pour out of the bottle or will I need to get a special filler tool ? Any help or suggestions are greately appreciated.

Thank you,
Kamil

I got this stuff on ebay which cost me 26 dollars with shipping.

Parts stores like Autozone sell a very inexpensive pump to transfer the fluid. Space is tight and the bottle cannot be emptied -at least on my 240d manual. I just use auto trans fluid. Somewhat of a messy job.

I bought MTL from Summit Racing. I'm not sure if it's just a local or chain store. $26 is a lot for shipping.

You'll need to get one of those hand pumps that are easily found at Kragen or PepBoys. They screw nicely into any 1-qt bottle. Make sure that you finalize the fluid level while the car is level, though you can raise the front for draining and initial fill.

The 26 bucks was for two quarts plus shipping (total for everything)

Oh yeah, I read it wrong. I think I got each bottle for $7.

Shipping out of Ontario (CAnada) could make it more than something shipped out of a nearby US location. But you definitely got the right stuff!
If you don't have a fluid pump you can use a container like a MityVac jar but larger (a quart jar would be minimum size) and apply pressure with a MityVac (in reverse) and fluid will go out thru the hose into the tranny.
