Turned in a smoker today. It was a late model Mazda coupe of some sort that couldn't have been more than 1-2 years old and was smoking like a freight train.

And it wasn't just oil smoke either...they were noxious, eye-burning fumes a zillion times worse than anything I've smelled/seen out of any diesel.

Exactly three. I have a nastygram from TCEQ for every one of my daily drivers; it's my turn now.

The turn in a smoker program is pointless nonsense and a total waste of taxpayer dollars. Personally, I'd like to bust their system by submitting thousands and thousands of complaints in a 24 hour period.

That program is just like the Freon™ Nazis here in Austin a few years ago; there was a point in time at which you were required to have a city license as well as a federal certification to be able to purchase Freon. I checked into it last year and discovered to my astonishment that the city license was no longer necessary. Why? Because, according to the employee I talked to, the federal funding for that program had been withdrawn. Must have not been too important, right?

Texas certainly has its pockets of liberalism led by "The Peoples Republic of Austin." Maybe it's because it rhymes with Boston.

I'm a country boy, but I've said many times that if I were going to live in/near a city in Texas it would be Austin. I don't know how long I would be able to stomach the liberalism there though. It's a beautiful place, but definitely the liberal leader of Texas cities.

I was born here and cannot wait to escape the dam*ed place. Not because of liberalisim (I'm an admitted left-winger) but because of 1) the head-in-the-sand mentality regarding traffic and expansion and 2) The self-serving political nonsense that goes on every day.

ASAP, I'm moving to the country. The politics may be exactly the same but at least you have some insulation from it all.

I think we can work together and make this happen. Since school is starting up again, I'll get a whole bunch of license plate numbers of HISD, Fort Bend, and maybe even Aldine school buses, and METRO Buses, and you get numbers from AISD school buses and Capital Metro buses, and we start submitting at the same time.

Apparently there is a similar rule to this in Iowa as well. I have a friend that has tuned up the IP on his Cummins and he got a letter from I believe the DOT, but it may have been the DNR, saying someone had reported his truck as experiencing a mechanical failure resulting in the release of excess pollutants (something to that affect, anyway). The letter suggested he have his vehicle serviced immediately to rectify the problem. I had heard of Texas' law on here but didn't know Iowa had a similar one. It may have been a city thing as well, as it was reported in Ames.
