Are there modified B1 bands for 722.3 trans?
Posted this in tech help & got no response, so I'll try here. This group doesn't masquerade as the automatic transmission fan club, and believe me, I know there's a darn good reason for that. Anyway,..I've heard of modifications/changes through production of different friction materials or brake band design meant to minimize the sharp 1-2 shift that is so common to the 722.3 trans? Does anyone here know of anything specific? I'm reassembling my trans, so now would be the time to put any reasonable updated materials or fixes in. Thanks!

I have at LEAST 100 pics so far, including several of the simple homemade tools I've made to do this. I do need some help as to how to manage it all, software for editing, etc. I'm seriously considering trying to put together a clear and concise, open source document about it. I really think automatics are cool. Of course, I'm not known for being normal

If I had pictures to follow like that in a step by step thing I would totally be more daring to attempt it myself someday when that day comes....which I hope is a loooong ways away yet.....I've got to see those pictures!

So far, I've spent a little over $400, half of that going for a known good, rebuilt valve body. Once it's all operational I plan to have a similar valve body that I can swap in and out to experiment with shift characteristics. I also spent $45 for a 0-60 in-lb torque wrench, but that doesn't count. I haven't bought a torque wrench in 20 years, so I figure I'm due.

Later year 722s received a different band to reduce that as I recall, probably a few things were different...
Less friction material on the band Different material Same type of thing applies when you go from standard OEM clutches (or band/s) to performance ones in domestic units, the shifts get considerably quicker and firmer. Partly due to the quality of the rebuild having no slop and proper clearances, but the rest is that the new material has far more grip. Also you can add or subtract the amount of clutch return springs in the direct pack that applies 4th to soften that shift too if you wish... I'd advise against that as I'd prefer apply and at times these springs can resist centrifugal apply in lower gears.
