Hi new 300d owner
Well I got my new to me 250K mile 82 turbo this morning. :)
Of course I have been searching the forums but will ask a few questions here :D My speedo seems to read low....what speeds corresponds to 3000rpm in top gear? Either the flow of traffic has slowed or my speedo is off. The tach doesn't work for first 5 mins after startup...???? Valve cover gasket is leaking in the front...is this just a new/tightening procedure like gas motors or sign of heavy blowby? The center vents (2 round thingies) won't pass air under any settings...all the other vents and a/c works great....where to look? One of the jack points has rust...how do you repair?...I want to keep the integrity of the structure and I take it the jacking points need to be pretty strong to hold up the car. What do I do if I need to change a tire? Thanks and sorry for the repeat questions...I have been reading the forums for a while but now that I have the car I have allowed myself to loose dignity and just ask ask ask :D Don |
I beileve at 3000rpm I am going 65mph in my diesel.
I had the same problem with my center vents. There is a vacuum operated accuator directly behind them that may have a leak. I was able to test my accuator by pulling the glove box and reaching in and pulling the lines off, but it was a very tight fit. You have to pull the dash out to replace the accuator pod. There is a place that sells the rubber diaphrams in the pods. But you have to take to pods apart, this is how I fix all mine, and they seem to work well. The pods are like $50 each. I replaced all my diaphrams for that much. Here is the site that sells the diphrams. http://www.autoluxmbz.com/ACDI.html Andrew |

New Benz Owner
Hi all,
Just picked up a 1983 300SD w/ 157,000 miles over the weekend. So far so good! Best car I've ever driven in terms of ride and handling. |
