sway bar bushing installation questions

I just got done fighting the passenger side sway bar bushing into place. using soap, a pry bar and some concentrated effort. The patient is a 300TD..

Is there anyone who has gotten the drivers side together with out taking the brake booster off?? I REALLY dont want to take that sucker apart.

My method on the passenger side was to catch the bottom nut, and then try and squeeze bushing into place as I caught the top nut... May be that is the wrong approach. all suggestions are welcome..

Jason

I just finished doing that job, literally about 10 minutes ago, on my 1985 300D. I tried to get the driver's side bushing on without removing the master cylinder, but I couldn't make it happen. There is a post somewhere on this forum where the guy did it with the master cylinder in place, but I don't see how he did it. Maybe if you had two people - one pushing on the bracket and one threading the nut - you could do it. In the end, it's probably easier to just take out the master cylinder.

Did not really want to learn that... I tried to get the master cylinder booster out of a parts car last november... had little success at that and so I am not looking forward to this attempt. Thanks for shairing your experience.

It can be done!! I dont believe it myself, but the drivers side was actually easier of the two. (as far as catching the nuts on the studs...) placement of the ruber bushing was critical and it only took me half the afternoon.. so if some one reads this in the future, and they believe they can get the master cylinder off/back on in less time that may be the way to go.
