All,
Thanks for the comments. Turns out a forum member decided to take it on. I suspect this car will be around for many more years to come. It’s not all sad. I bought the car with the intention of training my 15 year old son in auto repair and restoration. We learned together about these MB diesels and he has accumulated some funny memories. He now knows that the statement, “Hey let’s go look under the hood and check a few things” involves unplanned time and money. Or, “Let’s adjust the ALDA one more time” means additional repairs to previously working components. He has quite a few more stories that I have sworn him to secrecy about. The good news is that these bonding moments will continue with the 190D I still own. Fortunately, I have a 10 year old son who will be joining the team soon. At least he doesn’t run in the opposite direction when I say “Hey let’s put it up on stands and take a look.” Hal Scripka 1984 190D 308,000 |

Glad to Read
Glad to read this saga has a reasonably good ending. My oldest and I crawled under the '84 more times today than I want to think about. He, like your son, is getting quite a lesson. I pulled a muscle in my chest while he came out unscathed.
As you could probably tell from my earlier post, I was having the same thought as the member that bought your car. I learned shipping charges aren't that bad so your offer was certainly more than fair. Best of luck with your remaining MB. Steve

If the car is costing you more than you care to spend, then I would say it's time to bail out, that's the hard lesson i'm learning. When repairs start costing more than the car is worth, time to sell, and buy a new one that doesn't need all of the repairs...
