engine in a 300sd turbo?

Is it a 617 like the 300D 123 chassis? Or a different engine...

I looked a rust bucket 300SD today. It's been parked for the better part of a decade and it's full of bees nests and rust. The inside is filled with cobwebs (imagine cobwebs all around the shifter and in between the seats, and hanging from the rearview mirror... )

I would have popped the hood, but like I said...bees nests...I was attacked as soon as I opened the driver's door.

So anyway, now I've been stricken with curiosity. I have no clue what year it was...I'll find a matching photo and tell you the year for that....

EDIT:

It was one of these, so I'm guessing early 80's.

Christ how can someone go out and buy a luxury car and then let it sit and decay for a million years.

I mean, what, people would lease them and then they'd be sold off to middle class idiots who could afford them used? I really don't understand it...I mean..

It may be smelly/slow..and it may be loud...but it still has a ****** star on the hood...people should baby these things...after all it is a flippin' Mercedes.

That's a 78-80 model 300SD.

Be weary of a obviously rusty w116 body (the car you are looking at) 300SD.
Those bodies, if not well taken care of, do not bounce back favorable in the rust department.

It may be worth passing on unless you want to purchase it for parts or an engine (if its even any good).
Bring some bee killer and go to town

Dad and I fired up an old Ford pickup the other day (diesel) that had a rats nest in the exhaust.
Boy did that thing look black and nasty when it got blown out. That truck must have been sitting for a few years
