93 300D 2.5L Cold Starting

When I start the car in the morning, the engine shakes for about 30 - 45 secs before smoothing out. White smoke is evident - unburnt fuel.

My guess is there is oring or gasket that is not airtight and air is getting into the fuel system.

It use to shake alot more before I did the following :

- replace both fuel filters
- replaced the oring below the spline socket on the IP
- replaced the oring in the fuel warmer
- replaced all 3 plastic fuel lines ( new copper rings) - no air bubbles in the lines
- new glow plugs

Is there any other oring or gasket that I need to replace that may be weak after all these years ?

sounds

like a classic case of a bad glow plug or two.

I replaced all 5 glow plugs ! Did that about 2 weeks ago, when I replaced all 5 orings on the IP.

I will check them tomorrow.

Any thing else I should look for ? Could the glow plug controller ( black box that has the glow plug harness ) be bad ???

well

i suppose they still could be bad. are they bosch? did they go in tight? i suppose if the carbon was built up too much one could damage them going in. although i have seen the glow plug reamers advertised i have never used one... but i suppose there is a need for them or they wouldnt have them offered.

You could check the voltage at each GP to verify they are getting power. Is your GP indicator light acting normally?

I will check the glow plugs tomorrow.

Is there a gasket or oring at the shutoff valve ? Or any gasket or oring in the fuel delivery channels that should be replaced ?
