How do you time a 240d properly?
 

MB diesel gods!! how do you properly time a 615 diesel from scratch? lets say
I dismantled the engine for an overhaul, and now im puting it back together.
Im wondering if i did it correctly? I aligned the timing marks on the camshaft,
below, on the crank i aligned the pointer to 0/tdc. & when i installed the IP i put the crank at 26degrees. so that when i align the pointer for TDC at the crank my camshaft marks are also aligned. Is what i did correct? i dont think i have any stretch on my chain :confused:

It may only be in how you worded it, but the first part sounded right. Set up cam mark alignment while crankshaft is at 0TDC. THEN turn engine almost two revolutions to 26BTDC. DO NOT turn the engine backwards. Once the crank is at 26BTDC, the cam marks will no longer perfectly align. Now put in your pump and set drip.

I would be more careful about making sure the TDC mark on the crankcase pulley and the notch on the camshaft are aligned when you install the belt tensioner.
Later on you can "fine tune" the IP by using the drip timing method.
Of course it sounds like you know what you are doing anyway.

Is it hard to get Mercedes parts where you are? Do they have a lot of them in the junkyards?
