hesitating under heavy acceleration

I took my daughters 190DT out yesterday. Getting on the highway I floored it. The car got to 65 quickly but did not want to go over 4K RPM. I acted like it was being starved but both fuel filters are new.
Any thoughts.

Check if the air filter is in good shape, also check that the tube where the air enters does not have any debris.

Also consider the tank strainer.

Another thing to consider is a partial blockage in the exhaust system

She's off to school Friday, I won't have time to check the strainer. She's never noticed the problem. It's only her lead foot dad.
