Sagging springs are really demoralizing...
If there is one thing that bums me out about my 85 300D its the Sagging Springs. Has anyone had sagging springs on their older Mercedes? How have you resolved this? Can i swap my driver side spring to my passenger side spring and vice versa to level the front out?
The rears are lower than they should be no matter what everyone says and the driver side is lower than the passenger side in the front. I swear, the springs must GO!! Once I fix them I will be back on the road to restoration. The W123 has tasteful, ageless styling but those sagging springs make it look like one of those old Olds 98's or American Motor cars ( I hope I did not offend anyone) in the cartoons... |

Richard, I had quite the experience with the back end dragging on the SDL. It's a long story and can be found here:
rear suspension ride height But, after changing subframe bushings, differential mount, and installing new custom springs, with a slight additional length, I've got the vehicle at the height that I want it. It might be about 1/2" too high, actually, but, I'll just use a thinner spacer if it really bothers me. For the 123, you probably can replace the differential mount and the springs, using OEM parts and get the ride height back. |

seriously, get yourself some new springs. Call Coil Spring Specialties in St. Marys (?) KS. They may be able to rework the old springs or make new ones from thicker wire like they did for my old 220.
