Get her a W123 that will need some work here and there and work on it with her, so she won't be one of those people who go to university/college and yet dont know how to change a tire or use jumper cables.

That works in theory, but I don't want my kids driving the same kind of death traps I did when I was a teenager. I will probably end up buying something safe and SLOW, with about 23 airbags.

I'd just tell her to stop being silly and go in the morning like any normal person.

EDIT: I don't think she was talking about life.

My daughters are 16 and 19 - And this pretty much sums it up:

if/when i have girl(s), they WILL get as greasy as the boy(s) i assure you.

my sister has apparently had a water leak in her y2k taurus for months and has run straight water in it since..."but it just wastes radiator fluid *radiator fluid!* and i dont want to waste money"

after my father and i spent 2 days working on the durn thing, installed a new pump, belt and thermostat, shes back on the road...

she has overheated every car shes owned. my parents let her drive my car when i was off in ohio once, i told her to flip the engine fan switch(cruddy taurus, manual cooling fan...) did she?

when i got home i had a nice smoking tailpipe and a car that was fond of oil....

women have made every effort to be thought of as equals... why should getting dirty be any different?

i personally dont believe the "but, like, im a girl...do you put the oil in that one that says oil(oel?)" thing. it doesnt take a great deal of strength to open a manual and learn to change a tire or oil.

blah blah blah.

im sorry... youll get the car sorted out im sure! i personally have just stopped letting women drive my cars. now that i think about it, i dont even riide with women anymore... might be a good way to go=)

Well...I think that you could have insisted on her going at a normal time and insisting on taking her there and picking her up.
Yes I read it 100 miles.
She's a teanager for heavens sake. That's the way it is or she doesn't go.

Or for her sake and her boyfriend invest a little bit in fixing his car. It doesn't matter if she's going to Great Adventure at 3:00 in the morning or to the movies at 6:00 at night, She's still driving in a death trap.

Craig,
Those Goldwings are nice!!

There's alot more to this theory than what they're driving. If she has to buy it, fuel it, and pay for it's insurance, she's going to have first hand experience into what it costs to own and maintain a car.

I do remember in high school watching my peers - both male AND female - who were given cars, repeatedly trash whatever their parents bought them. Those who had to buy their own, typically treated them like gold with wheels. They also tended to be far better drivers, as they didn't want their already hideous insurance rates to go any higher.

Good points, I can still avoid dealing with this issue for another 1-1/2 years, so I think I will.
