Rack Damper and Breather Tube in so far...but still issues

My order from ************** was finally obtained by me today, I peeled into the USPS parking lot, ran in 2 mins before 5, and picked up the package they were holding for some odd reason (they just left me a "sorry we couldn't deliver") card. I installed the new tube, its awesome, simply perfect, not a single whisp or drop of oil/air is getting out of there now!

BUT I installed the new rack damper too, and it changed things, idles "steadier" in my opinion, however, it STILL shakes back and forth no matter where I adjust it, almost the same as with the old pin, which was not an original, it was a replacement one. So I don't know why it still shakes, its not bad, but it does. The injectors can't be the problem either, it runs like heck when I romp the pedal, idles smooth, no smoke, and 0-60 in less than 12.8 seconds. I also still have the transmission shudder, I shut the car down while driving, then proceeded to stop from about 30mph, and it STILL shuddered except this time, right next to me, its got to be the tranny mount. Thats next on the list.

Whats weird is that on the way back from the diesel meetup last week my dad and I took our SD's to almost 120mph (he was going a little faster than I was...I was probably around 115ish) for a little while, and I had no vibrations, so there is no way it is the center bearing, wouldn't that thing go crazy with the shaft going that fast? The 83 hit 120mph, he backed off right away once he hit 120.... And yes its accurate, we drove past a radar thing the police set up, and its within 1mph of what the radar screen said. And yes rpm's were over 5k....

Don't know much else to do besides take the IP in for re-calibration. Or get another IP. I have this same problem on my car... the new rack dampner helped out quite a bit, but there is still quite a bit of rocking. Valves are due for adjustment on mine so that is probably contributing a little bit....

Tranny mount is very easy to replace, hope that solves your problem!

I wouldn't dismiss the injectors out of hand. They can be working fine but have different pop pressures. This changes the timing of each cylinder and could result in a less than desirable idle.

I recently sent my set of five to "buyabsellonebay" to carefully get the pressures matched and the spray pattern checked.

If the nozzles are good, I think it's the best $15.00 you can spend.

If the nozzles are not good, now is the time to fix them.

Sure, the IP might be out of spec, but, why deal with that yet?

Valves could be a problem possibly, I haven't had them adjusted in about 16k miles now....the odd thing is that is has always been shaking the same amount like it is right now, so I wonder if it truly would be affected by an adjustment. It doesn't bother me too much, so I guess I'll just live with it. I do fully intend to change the tranny mount though, that shuddering drives me crazy when I am stopping, especially in the city when I have to stop every few blocks.......another reason I don't believe its the center carrier bearings is that there's no way the drive shaft is heavy enough to shake the car when its at 70 some odd rpm at 15-20mph...it wouldn't make sense, it'd have to be the whole tranny shaking around. I guess I will order a tranny mount now from fastlane.... I am trying to think if there's anything else I should order as well.

Wednesday I am instaling the nifty new lower cooling hose + block heater aparatus...its very neat, and I expect it will work quite well....I will post some pics.

how are the engine mounts? engine shocks? and yes if the center bearing carrier is bad it has enough force to shake the car. why not just get underneath and see if it looks worn? its really easy to check.

I placed an order for a tranny mount, air filter, and a new 1.4 bar cooling system cap. I will go under the car tomorrow when I have time and inspect things, I never noted any wear on the carrier bearing or flex discs when under there before, it all looked ok.

Engine mounts were replaced w/OEM in April when I did my Oil cooler lines project. Engine shocks are not new but they seem to function ok. The tranny mount is probably original, and probably mush...so I will see if changing that helps out. Hopefully I can solve this problem, because its driving me crazy....
