w123 Door lock/ignition key would be non-high secuirty (easier to find)

w126 door key is harder to find since it is high security and has to be cut in an odd manner (some locksmiths have the equipment but not all).

The predicament you are having with the doors but not the trunk, etc. is probably due to a valet key being thrown around? I beleive the valet keys will only do doors and ignition right? I am not too familar with the system but thought I would pipe up.

[QUOTE=kamil]I just ordered another Master Key for my 190D since I only have one key for the car. (I can't believe I was driving like this for months ) Anyway, the key was only 14 bucks!!!! I have to pick it up tomorrow but I thought that it was EXTREMELY cheap. I was prepared to pay 50 bucks at least.

My local locksmith ordered some for me and cut them for 7 bucks a pop.

I bought a few and they were all around $20 each.

The only problem with getting a key cut with the VIN is if the locks were changed over the years you will be SOL.

AFAIK their are no folding keys availible for these cars.

Keys were cut at the Baltimore, MD warehouse. Since they closed up and moved the operation to New Jersey, I would assume the key operation went there also.
Unless the door handles/locks have been swapped by some hack using junkyard parts, the keys have a good success rate.
$14 is a good price. When you get into the "switchblade" keys and some of the newer versions, (such as the ML keys that incorporated anti-theft circuitry in the key), your wallet will scream like a stuck pig. Alan

i read this thread earlier and then while browsing ebay i found this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7995057362&ru=http://motors.search.ebay.com:80/7995057362_W0QQfromZR8QQsamcmZ6000QQsaspiZ2QQfviZ1

now i have to find some place that will cut them for me. can i go to a dealer with these, or do i have to go to a local lock smith. my key is worn out, and is it recommended for him to makes a copy of my worn key? lol i should try and go to lowes and see if they will make a copy of my key, but how would they charge me?

I got the key back today from the dealership and it works better than my old worn one. It looks so good and shiny . One thing though, the key was so sharp that I cut the hell out of my finger when I was admiring it and feeling the edges. I never knew they were supposed to be that sharp.

All in all, a great deal for 14 bucks. The key is identical and it has the mercedes star so you know it's not some cheap knockoff.

Give your dealership a try and see how much they charge. I'm sure the prices are different for other models though.

Shhh....

I can see the headlines now: "Department of Homleand Security bans Mercedes keys on all commercial flights." "Mercedes dealers must conduct background checks on all prospective key purchasers." "New terrorist profile: Mercedes Benz drivers."
