One of my Dream Cars

I find the sellers hype rather amusing. But This is one Diesel Benz I'd love to have. The only thing missing I would like to have is a sunroof. Oh well...

I really like that vintage of body style. I still get tempted every time I see a nice 6.3.

Austin85 08-24-2005 11:42 PM

That is one cool looking MB.
are those pool noodles under the driver's seat??? (-:

t walgamuth 08-24-2005 11:54 PM

it looks

very nice. not overly shiny but very nice. small bumpers. this is the way they were designed to look.

i have had two 115s a 72 220 and a 74 240. sweet cars.

very high quality of certain interior trim parts such as glove box door. like a little bank vault door.

whats the blurb about 240s being slower?

im almost certain the 240 is injected as well? isnt this engine just smaller, but almost exactly the same?

how are 220s different?

i like this body style a lot as well, maybe itll be my next, i just have to sell this pesky beetlebug...

diametricalbenz 08-25-2005 11:57 AM

I didn't understand what they meant about having a non injected 240D. Were they implying a carbureted diesel?

Tom - Does the 220D perform better overall than the 240D?

pj67coll 08-25-2005 02:06 PM

Slower than a 240D

That's what I meant by the sellery Hype being amusing. Doesn't detract from the cars desireablility to me though.

This guy is so full of it. A unicycle pedaled by an amputee will outrun a 240...

That's funny you mention that. On the way to work sometimes there IS a guy who has a specially designed and counterweighted touring bicycle. He has no left leg and did take off from the line faster than my 240D did until about 15mph. ;) I was impressed.....also by the fact that he has the courage to bike during 8am morning traffic in LA

t walgamuth 08-25-2005 07:48 PM

in my experience

no. there may be a 220 somewhere that will outrun a 240 somewhere, but my 220 was slower than any 240 i have had. i am pretty sure of that.

I had one just like that, 72 220D, same color, it had the extra fog lights, no sunroof, had it for 4 years, very reliable car and had no problems at all. The ugly bumpers were added in 74 when it became 240D. The only bad part is that damn York AC system, it takes a lot of power to run and produces very little cooling.

What has he got left to lose?

I agree 100% on those bumpers. I wish my '75 115 had a set of Euros on it...right now it reminds me of a bulldog's chin in front and the backend has so much overhang you could run a whistlestop campaign from back there.

devonhiee 08-26-2005 08:25 AM

My my my, it looks like it is in better condition than a lot of the cars on the streets today. Whoever had it mustve kept very good care of it.

dlssmith 08-26-2005 05:34 PM

The car looks really nice, stylish with the smaller bumpers.

Question: Do you have to do a Fred Flintstone to get it going if you pack four or five people in there?

t walgamuth 08-26-2005 11:50 PM

well.....

yes.... think like a 240 only somewhat slower. mine had manual steering and no air. it was fine to drive but dont even think of passing on a curvy hilly 2 lane. on level ground plan ahead. nice car though. rekindled my love affair with benzes.
