300SD oil filter leaks
I have an oil leak from my filter, It is not from the cap, it is from elsewhere. What does it take to remove the filter housing and re-seal and re-install?
thanks. Doug |

Check where the oil filter housing meets the block. This is a very common area for oil leaking on these cars, and is a very inexpensive gasket to replace.
You will need to detach the oil cooler lines from the housing. I used a line wrench and homemade (1 1/16) flare nut wrench from a box end wrench. Where it mounts, you will need a good quality allen wrench to remove the four bolts. That is about it, along with some patience. Not a bad job, just be sure the gasket is lined up correctly. If you are very new to DIY, here is a good site with some good kits which include instructions: www.**************.com

Clean all around it first, then you'll see where it's really leaking from. If it's around the oil pressure sender or the turbo oil tube, fix that first, then check again.
