Exclamation Sunroof Drains?

Wow, pretty empty in here now that the forums are back.

Stupid question, probably.. but since there was a pool of water in my back right floorboard last week (due to the darn monsoon weather we had).. I suspected a leak somewhere. I removed the back seat, but there wasn't any leaking under the seat (do I have to check behind the seatbacks too? I just checked under the cushions, and under the foam insulation..

So, I suspected that this is due to clogged sunroof drains. Here's the question(s). First off, how does a clogged drain cause water to pool INSIDE the vehicle? And second.. I know how to clean them out.. but uh.. (here's the stupid part).. where are they on my 84 300D?

Thanks in advance!

When I had this same car, with the similar symptoms that you have, the leak tuned out to be from the front. The water than run downhill to the back and settled in the same are that you describe. Had me puzzled for a long time. It turned out to be a blocked drain just below the spring that holds up the hood. Look for traces of water under the right FRONT floor board.

My other suggestions would be to pour a bit of water at each corner of the open sunroof and see where this water ends-up. Another suggestion would be to sprinkle Talcum powder on the floor boards, and beyond. This will help you trace the direction of the flow and should help in finding the origin of the leak.

I think you will find it is not the sunroof drains as they will drain into the trunk rather than the inside of the car. I had the same problem and I traced it to a leaky windshield seal on the front windshield. The water leaks downhill behind the front kick panel and runs down the channel for wires and vac tubes and under the black cover underneath the rugs to the rear floor area..I spent a good 2 hours taking things apart and watching the water run to diagnose this..It is somewhat solved with an application of silicon seal on the windshield to seal area. Later I will have to replace the windshield due to a crack and will replace the seal at that time...
