Help, E class diesels

I know there are 1990s e class diesels, but were there 80s/ early 90s available in US? I am looking for one to replace my w126. Any recommendations on one, or any forewarnings to look for when purchasing one? Thanks for any advice!
Rod - Ali
1986 300SDL (w126) - 111k
1991 420SEL (w126) - 123k

This is a pretty handy index of the US models:

Take a look at the 123, 124, 126 Chassis. As you probably know, engine numbers starting with 6 are diesels.
