I just noticed that there's a fast buzz coming from the plastic vac thingie on top of the injector pump on my 82 300TDT. Is this something to worry about?

I was working on a friend's 300D and noticed the same buzzing noise on the vacuum control valve on the side of the IP (non-turbo). I was investigating transmission shift problems at the time (early, soft shifts)
Adjusting the VCV fixed the shift points the shifts. He drove and came back and told me of hte changes. Prior flaring was only mentioned after I had the shift points right and I did not ask whether flaring was still an issue.

I have not noticed this buzzing before on any 300D I have worked on. I believe that is a wear issue with the VCV, (perhaps causing excessive leakage?)

I noticed the same thing with my 300D, and it has to do with vacuum it is getting. if i shut off my car and open the hood i can clearly hear it comming from the VCV. When it pull the vacuum line off it goes away. if i reattach the vacuum line, it starts buzzing again.

I do have trans shifting issues and would be interested how i can adjust the shifting from the VCV. do i have to get a new VCV? i think they are expensive.

The vacuum control valve leaks by design. The buzz should be no cause for concern.

hmm, i found one post via search saying that he had shifting issue with his trans and buzzing. i am having the same issues, and was hoping i could tie them together.

the reason i am questioning it is because my 85 300d did not buzz like this, and why would it buzz only when it has vacuum. this could be my leaking culprit in my vacuum system.
