Complete Removal

Been thinking about completly removing the AC system in my '81 300D. I bought the car about two months ago from a guy in town. He said " all it needs is a recharge", but I am getting the feeling that it needs a heck of alot more than that. In the climate that I live in, I don't even need AC, much less need to stick money into repairing the system. Does anybody have any suggestions on what I should remove? Anybody need any spare parts?

I've been tempted to remove my compressor and a couple hoses before, but I end up being too lazy....and just leave it in there. My compresser still rotates freely by hand and I can feel the compression "pulse" when I do it, so I have hope that with some minor work it could be brought back to life......

I figger you could delete maybe 65 lbs

and xtra room in an engine bay is always appreciated, not to mention added airflo to your radiator....

but, you never know what the future will bring, you might hafto relocate to Houston next year!

I removed the a/c in my jeep when I lived in colorado... I never planned on leaving... but here I am in maryland, stuck in traffic and stuck to the vinyl seat in my jeep.

I agree that irreversible deletions and variable futures don't mix.

Do a search on the forums for A/C answers and just leave it in !!

You might just want to disconnect the compressor. The A/C won't work but it won't cause any other problems (including having future potenial buyers walk away).

If you either move, win the lottery or otherwise feel the urge to make it blow cold, it's as easy as connecting the wires and figuring out why you disconnected it in the first place.

Also it pisses some people like us on the forum to high heaven when we get a car that someone has removed parts thereof. :) :D

My 240D is missing the compressor and some hoses and I am cross. I would have brought it back to life one way or another. I like cars being as they were origionally. (If well built initially) :)
