The white-walls do look very sweet.

A friend of mine had a w115 body do the same thing with the rotor (it had just reached the end of its life and was almost completely seperated from the hub).

Insane that it happens but technically, if a good shop was doing the work, they would have caught the thing rotor long LONG ago...

Looks like someone did a few too many of their "special" brake jobs...

Check out the rest

If I were you I'd be checking out the rest of the car, too...

which is why I usually deal with the smaller local retailers 90% of the time they know their stuff, a lot of times they'll price match the big boys and it's supporting the local economy not the corperate big wigs.... Oh and most importantly you get *gasp* customer service!

On topic, I'm lucky enough to have found a good shop to bring my cars. they've got compitant mechanics and thy have the 'fix it right the first time' mentality. Might take a few weeks to get an appointment (always busy, guess why ) and they may take a little longer than other places. but at least I know my car is FIXED. I have not had the mercedes in yet, but they'll see it soon... than I'll get to find out all the lil problems I didn't know about when I bought it.

After looking at those pictures, there's only one conclusion I could come up with..............someone tipped back a few too many before beginning the job. I mean, come on! A backwards brake pad!?

I'm not a great mechanic but I surely know which way the brake pads are supposed to face!

I strongly agree with the other member that said to check out the rest of the car. Hard to tell what you'll find.

Cheers,

Bill

If a car has small white-wall tires you can grind down the sides to make them wide white-wall? I didn't get that part.

Thanks
David

Yep, as they have to make it wide first before they can be narrow... pardon me if that doesnt make sense, I'm still working on cup of coffee #1.

You wont have a "perfect" circular whitewall like you would if you shelled out big $ for a real wide white, as the big piece underneath isnt made to be perfect, as the black stuff covers it during the molding of the tire. But from 10 feet away, or going at 10 mph+, they look *****in!

That big electric grinder has a 50 grit disc on it, I use an 80 grit on the DA to clean up and "finish" it. Best way I can reccommend how to do it is to get a "scrap" tire and expiriment and practice on it, and remember that every model of tire is a little different.

You are taking down your sidewall at least 1/16th", but remember that part of the tire is made for Granny to use as a curb feeler anyway...

When you do scuff 'em up, I like to use brillo pads to clean them, and I heard that "Westley's Bleach-White" works good too.

Later!
Jason
