Climate Control

I ran into yet another problem on my MB that threw me off. I used to drive a Ford and could always bet on it being the most expensive, difficult fix. I swear these MB's were designed for ease of service. None of my climate control works meaning that the fan doesn't come on to blow the air through the vents. My first guess was the blower motor. I pulled it out, put 12 volts to it and it runs! Next I looked over the wiring and it is good. So my next guess is that the climate control switches (more specifically the fan switch) on the dash are shot. Is this a safe assumption or is there another potential cause?

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

A common cause of your problem is cracked solder joints in the push button unit. Easy fix.

You can solder on these cars? This is just amazing! You mean it isn't permenantly molded plastic that requires the replacement of the entire cluster? I wish I bought my MB a long time ago.

I took apart the switch and the connections look good, no cracked solder. I also checked the fuses, no luck there. I think I will use a wire to jump the circuit board so I can eliminate the switch as the problem. Any other ideas?
