The Arabs are only part of the problem. Has anyone noticed that the oil companies are pulling in record profits? I've read profit increases in the neighborhood of 50 - 60%. If price per barrel were the only culprit, then raising the price per gallon proportionally to make up the cost difference would not amount to what we're been seeing the last few years. The reality is the oil companies are practicing what is called "just-in-time inventory" to keep gasoline inventory at the bare minmum, thus keeping prices high. Which is why Hurricane Katrina is having an adverse impact on gas prices since available inventory is already kept low. The stock holders of these companies are very happy.

17.25 mpg. That's pretty good. My 2002 Doge 1500 van with the 318 got 18mpg the day I picked it up at the dealer. About a year later it was getting 12mpg. I haven't changed my driving habits. Dealer says there is nothing wrong with it. Still getting 12mpg. Good thing the boss buys the gas!

This one is a 1989 vintage with 130K on the clock. I put a set of new AC plugs in it recently in a failed attempt to cure a rough idle. Noticed a jump in mileage just from that change. Never would have believed it.

It has a relatively new rotor and cap as well.

I'm going to try for 18 on the next tank, but, it won't be easy. Too many traffic lights just kill the economy due to the relatively heavy weight (estimated at 4700 lb. with driver and cargo).

Dealers....................

I put mine on the scale at the scrap yard with an old boiler in it. She was over 7500 lbs. The door tag says 6600 max gross weight. I never saw rear springs bend that way before. Needless to say, my wagon was dragg'en
