Thoughts on burning used motor oil?

I'm not desparate enough to try this, I supposedly have a place a coupla blocks away that sells diesel for $2.40/gal, (have yet to verify) but I've heard of people running used motor oil in diesels.

Now, it sounds sketchy, I figure you'd have to filer the hell out of it and run it past a magnet and stuff...

Whattya think?

Off to go reinstall my "rebult" axle and pull the driveshaft to replace the bearing carrier... and trans mount... and...

Later!

Whattya think about doing a search? We all cussed and discussed this a couple of years ago.

R Leo is right. Do a search.

I wouldn't think 2x about burning it. As long as it is like you said, filter the hell out of it. I wouldn't dump in gallons of it at a time but there is nothing wrong with dumping those few quarts in at every oil change.

I've gone up to 80% on it, but I wouldn't do anything over 50% for smoke / smell reasons. I filter everything through a 1 micron bag filter first. Do a search, plenty of this topic already.

I don't put it in my Benz but I do put it in my three 130 hp tractors and they run better with it than straight #2 diesel. I filter it through a Lubrifiner system from a junked Kenworth and add 2 1/2 gallons to each 40 gallon tankfull.

I think it would be really fun to have a reservoir of about a quart or two of used oil that could be switched into the fuel system from a button in the cabin. Would make a great anti-tailgating device I think. Imagine.. there you are coming up to speed slowly in your diesel, taking your time enjoying the ride and here's a tailgater behind you in a big hurry to get to the next red light. No problem, hit the button and burn 100% oil for 30 seconds or so and next thing you know .. if there's a tailgater back there you can't see him. Most likely though he's not there any more.. he's on the side of the road running his windshield washers and looking like buckwheat. If I ever figure out a clever way to do this I'll document it and post it.
