What's This Dash Part?

I have a '79 300D replacing the dash. Don't know what year this dash comes from...

See attached pic for some kind of sensor that vents thru the dashboard. On this particular dash it is located in the middle. In my original dash it is located to the extreme right by the passenger side.

The question: do I need to hook this up?

A) I didn't have any wires on my old dash or they were long ripped out. See the arrow in the pic for the wires on the new dash.

B) Since it's located so far from the original I'll have to run a hose over to it if it's important.

At this point I'm set to install my dash without worrying about this piece. Doesn't look like it worked on my car before anyway.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Bill

Looks like the sensor for the Auto Climate Control for the w123 '81-'85 model years equipped with the ACC (II). Your car likely has the "older" version of the ACC? You don't need to hook this one up since your climate control unit differs from the newer ACC units (later models had horizontal push buttons like the unit on the pic - right side). And if you like, you still run your original hose to the same location at the extreme right by the passenger side like in your original dash. The newer dash with the center tiny square vent (which houses the newer ACC sensor underneath) will just be a dead bird... so leave it as-is.

Thanks... I do have the buttons on the right so it sounds like I'm ok... I'm just gonna leave it dead... now see my next thread about an indicator light!

Thanks again,
Bill
