Fuel leak near inline filter

Hey all,

I changed by spin-on and inline yesterday and all seemed to go well. Went out to dinner came back, everything was fine. This morning I go out and find the car sitting in a large puddle of diesel!

It looks like the hose going from the "out" of the inline to a metal hose that swivels that's connected to what looks like the bottom of the fuel pump is leaking. Dry at the inline and dry on the spin-on.

Any thoughts on what part this might be and how I can get the extreme diesel smell out of my garage?

Thanks! :/

first

i would scrutinize it for a loose fitting.

as for the diesel, i would use dish detergant, and perhaps carb cleaner and then i would worry that that would not do it.

I double-checked the phillips-head screw tighten clamps and they are tight to the max.

It's almost like the swivel fitting wasn't supposed to swivel and now it's busted open or something.

I moved the swivel hose to a vertical position and the leaking seems to have stopped. Not sure if it's a permenant solution, but it seems to be holding.

Any ideas what this metal piece is? Maybe I should also put on new hose clamps, too....

isn't there a heat exchanger there? if so they like to leak.
best is to clean the whole area and then sprinkle powder around the suspected areas and the leak will show up easily.

Are you talking about the cylindrical device on the crossmember below and to the rear of the IP? If so that's the fuel thermostat. You shouldn't be able to spin the fitting in front of the thermostat very easily. If you can, either the front fitting is broken or it needs a new o-ring. Individual parts are available from the dealer (for sure) and from FastLane (I expect). Do a search on a thread initiated by dieselbeagel on this topic.
