best VO system for a 300SD

Is there one out there that is better than the others for a 1980 300SD?

I'm not looking for links to the different types of kits available, but rather people's experiences and suggestions, thanks.

Thanks for the welcome.

I've read through most of those links, but what I'm really looking for is personal recommendations and experiences. I figure who better to ask than the members here.

Well with a search you will see several threads where this has discussed the pro's and cons of the various systems....

and determine what suts your needs and driving habits best....most are not a one size fits all. Thats why I commented as I did....

WVO for a person who makes mostly short trips is a bad fit as are single tank blends for someone north of the tropics...lot of variables need to be considered.

I myself prefer to go the Biodiesel route due to multiple vehicles and short trips...but that requires far more work...I am prepairing to build a prosessor as soon as I can get the components to do so.

Understood, thanks. I'm also looking for something specific for winter running...it can get to -40 here in Alberta, plus a wind chill factor on top of that. Fairly dry winters, though....

Yeah, that's why I want to make sure I have the best type of system for pre-heating the fuel before it reaches the engine.

I contacted Greasel, and they stated their were people in Alaska using their products.

Heated dual tank system....takes time to heat up the oil before you can switch over...fine on long trips...bad for frequent short trips....

True, my distance seems to be suited to alternative fuels.

My concern with the heating, is ensuring that the fuel doesn't gel on it's way to the engine. Heating the tank is fine, but the fuel lines I would assume could possibly freeze up in -40 weather?

Dunl

(PS. That's Celcius, not Farenheit. )

still pretty cold...

the lines are typically heated from the tank..along with near the fuel pickup. You are right...it would gell or be too thick to work otherwise.

I can't comment on that specific kit over another....but it has been discussed as to the pros and cons of several comercial kits a at least a few threads by people with first hand experience with them. I know what I have read on the subject. So will not praise or condem that particular system as I have not used them.

Even without commenting on a specific model or kit, you've helped a lot.

I'd love to hear from anyone who uses a cold weather kit of some kind...
