coolant expansion tank

1983 300D Turbo
Does anyone out there know what kind of plastic my engine coolant expansion tank is made of?
It started leaking a small amount of coolant from the seam where the top and bottom pieces join at the front mountig bolt. If I knew what kind of plastic it is made of ,I would take it off and try gluing it from the inside.
$40 + freight to replace new. I'm little spookie about old plastic from a junkyard.
THANKS FOLKS.
Lou

Lou, I'm not sure what the tank is made of, probably Nylon, but with the pressures it sees I wouldn't try to fix the leak, just replace it.

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

i would

not hesitate to try the glue. i might try pvc cement. there is also an all purpose plastic (clear) that works well for these things...cant think of the name.

the right glue will weld the plastic and be as good as the mother material.

if it fails you can always buy a new one later.

Junkyards usually stand behind what they sell a used one that doesn't leak is much better than one that was glued.

As far as i know you could just put a different expansion tank on it doesn't HAVE to be MB just an option. Because my brothers did not have an expansion tank and he after market installed one.
