JUST got 98 300TD !! Get some questions too
Found a VERY clean 98 MB TD with 117k on it for 15995 from A & G auto in VA Beach, Va. We drove the car from Virginia Beach to LA and on 2 tanks we got almost 38 mpg driven 80 with AC on nice !!
Questions: - I was thinkin about getting vented fronts seats but now I want to know if the active seats with ventilation that are optional in a 00 and up S 500 will fit and work in the W210? If so anyone know the cost? - Do vented seats that are made for the W210 come with lumbar support? If not what is the part number for the seats that have lumbar support? - It has slite knock at idle when it gets to 90 deg C, any way to fix this? At 90 deg and below you cant even tell its a diesel even while its IN a garage! - It has some turbo lag from a stop and sometimes more air in and flow out on a forced induction engine fixes this. I took the cat out of my VW TDI and put in bigger injectors and its still chirping in 2nd gear with no smoke increase. Anyone take the cat out of thier W210 TD with no after effects? Any makers of aftermarket exhaust for these? What about after market intakes? - Which after market chip for the W210 E300TD have you found most relieable? thank you VERY much for your input |

You must be careful with the MB names. A 300TD is a station wagon.
Since none were sent to the USA, I assume you have an E300D. Some may call it a E300, E300D, E300DT or just plain ol' 300D. I like the 98-99 E300's for the "modern" powerplant. (Hey, 1999 still FEELS new! ) It's not like my 240D. The only electronics in it are the radio, glow plug timer, turn signal flasher, and tachometer. Less gizmos, less to break. |

Both you fellows are living in the past.
E300TD is the proper designation for the e-class W210 diesel sedan. http://www.google.com/search?q=1998+E300TD&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all&start=0&sa=N |

The proper name is E300 Turbodiesel, and I've owned mine since new.
Sorry, can't help you with any seat replacement information. The knock might be taken care of with a dose of Diesel Purge. The procedure for doing it on a W210 has been posted recently, so you should find it easily with a search. Yes there is some turbo lag, but that's just part of the fun. You can get better low end performance with a chip from Speedtuning USA. I know of several people who have it and are very satisfied. Never heard of cat removal or aftermarket exhaust. This model didn't sell enough to warrant much aftermarket development. Finally, 82-300td, you're close but not quite correct about the electronics. The accelerator cable ends at a potentiometer, so the IP is electronically actuated. Without that you couldn't have ASR or ESP.

Ah, the past. Hey, that's where all the memories are stored. I love my 1998 trunk lid badges: E300.........................Turbodiesel. I don't see many running around.Enjoy.
