It should be the same. You can replace the brushs if thats the problem. I've used appliance brushs from Ace Heardware, they wont last as long as the OEM ones but... :rolleyes:

I am facing the same issue and was going to try and swing by and pick up set for my 79 300D this week.

after many trips to the yards here I've found not all w123 blowers are the same. Very close, yes but not identical. There is a chance a 240d blower will not fit into your 300d, but it's more dependant on year and origin (country of delivery) than model.

i think i will try stevo's idea if i can get the ace part numbers.

What you have to do is just root around in the various sized brushes and find a pair thats close and carve em down to fit. There is a guy, George something, that sells them, I'm sure theres info about him if you do a search. I know the Euro blowers are different but I didnt know there was any difference in the US 123 cars.

www.**************.com has original replacement brushes with instructions on replacement for blower motors. (Or brushes only ) About $20, if I recall. Look in their "kits".

Brushes for 12-volt DC automotive motors aren't that hard to find -- I haven't used this vendor, but if you have a Behr/Bosch blower motor, the brush you want is Part. No. 54H on this page: http://www.carbonbrush.com/automotivebrush.htm

If you order, I'd be interested in knowing the result. They seem like a far cheaper vendor than the Usual Sources. Add to the knowledge base if you can, right?...but please read on.

I see you're in southern Wisconsin...I know of a factory in the Milwaukee area that can manufacture motor brushes to spec. One catch: you have to buy $100 worth! That's two dozen in the case of the Bosch brushes. I went that route last year and found plenty of folks eager to take the surplus off my hands, for half the price ************** and George Whatshisname wants. Feel free to PM me anytime for more details (keep reading).

A brush in a 12-volt DC motor has to handle a lot more amperage than the 110V AC brushes that Ace and other hardware stores have in stock for vacuum cleaners and power drills. The hardware store brushes may last awhile but its a chancey repair, IMO.

BUT... On to the issue at hand, which is the blown fuse: worn brushes in the blower motor are not likely to blow a fuse. More likely, the motor will simply stop working. There's no overload there, just an interruption of power when the brushes lose sufficient contact to the motor commutator.

I've read before that the specified climate control fuse on W123s and W124s often isn't sufficient to handle the power load in the circuit. I've also read (a Marshall Booth post, I think) that Mercedes has even produced a W124 kit to install a 30-amp fuse in the circuit for cars in which the mountings for the cartridge have melted. That certainly suggests that the wiring in the W124 is sufficient to handle the extra load.

So the specified fuse on your '83 is, what, 16 amps? I'm just a shadetree wrench spouting a bunch of Internet lore here, but if I were in your situation, I'd consider installing a 25A cartridge fuse where the 16A fuse failed. If you're prudent, you might want to find a way to confirm that the blower motor circuitry can handle that load. If you're an MBCA member, you might want to contact Dr. Booth in his role as MBCA's diesel specialist. Otherwise, consider that I disavow all knowledge of your actions and assume no liability! Plus, I'm broke! And an orphan!

Two fuses blow after running my blower for about 30 seconds. (10) Blower fuse and (5) AC Compressor Switch Over Valve Idle Stabilizer.

I have a 1980 300CD. Are the brushes in motor probably causing this or does anyone know what probably is?

Be careful experimenting if it's blowing fuses, if it is the blower drawing high current it can toast the control unit.

Perhaps a logical course would be to unplug the blower motor completely. Replace the fuses. Push all the buttons that would make the blower come on. If the fuses never blow, the motor is the culprit.

That sounds like a reasonable place to start. You may want to pull the blower motor out and see if it's dragging as well. There are lots of posts from people who have repaired these motors. A new replacement is around $200 as I recall.

I used the www.mercedesource.com heater blower kit w/ brushes. Works like a hurricane now (both AC and heat).
