Sparky, The Diesel

So I've always wanted to go to Germany and pick up a new Benz. But I am 60 and can see it ain't gonna happen. So, the wife and I looked for a good used un to perhaps buy and go pick up for a road trip. Looked on E-bay, car trader ,etc. and finally settled on one in New Jersey (we are in TEXAS). This story plays better to those of you that have seen The Out of Towners with Sandy Duncan and Jack Lemmon. We fly up there....but first we hadda de-rail on the Philly plane and wind up in Pittsburgh (Oh, my God, the plane is broke!). We had a lay over for over 2 hours, till plane fixed or other plane comes. Then we fly over to Philly. Just about miss the train over to Trenton, N.J.---(oh, my God, they are leavin without us!) But we do get onna train and in progress to Trenton, the railway computers go down-- and they have never done that (oh, my God, we're gonna be stuck here all night!)
But they do get the train goin again, and just in time too. Got us to Trenton before the car dealership closed. Dealer comes and gets us....has a flat on way back to the dealership (oh, my God,......). So we get to the dealership, sign off on the car and hit the road.......just in time for rush hour on the New Jersey turnpike....which was ******* to belly button and cheek to cheek at 85 miles per hour. So, we decide to have a cigarette. Used the car lighter....it shorts and (oh, my God, we are on fire!!!!!). So there I were, runnin 85 mph, grabbin the wife by the leg--to keep her from bailin out the right door, steerin with the left knee, brakeing and gassing with the right foot, and trying to open the moon roof and open windows and put out the ashtray fire with the left hand. Busy I were, ya might say! But I have to give them Yankee commuters credit, when they see the black smoke rollin outa the windows/moon roof on the black Mercedes. And see-N's how they might wanna see the house tonight, ya know the family and kids, or even see the sunrise tomorrow.....they back the hell off and all of a sudden I have the whole road to my self. So we pull off to the right and I simply puff the fire out with my breath. Got Lucky. So, we run the diesel about 85 to 90 mph for hundreds of miles onna way back to TEXAS......laughin real hysterical like jest ever few miles.

So there then, Sparky, The Diesel ---is really an appropriate name

Regards

What kind of diesel Benz?

Bought a 1983 300sd with 154,000 miles on it. Dark blue- looks black from 10 feet away, with camel interior. Onna way back to Texas, would slowly pull down in speed -to a crawl- going up the mountains, but the heavy ol panzer would run like a mother forker down mountain with wild eyed abandon
The entire trip back was like an extended Italian tune up. Just kept runnin better and better alla way back... and oh, yeah, with the brake warning lite glowing most of the way (oh, my God, we're outta brakes )
Then there was the first night hotel. Checked in and settled into the room just in time to find out the room heat was off. Was gonna be really cold that night so we hadda change rooms for one with heat (oh, my God, we're gonna freeze...hope the Benz starts inna mornin!!!!!---it did). So we re-pack for the room move--just in time to find out the porters had gone home for the night. Then there was the time that we ran really down on diesel fuel and the only pumps available were the huge truck ones.....did ja know ya can fill pails and funnel enough fuel in about 45 minutes to go another hunnert miles in search of a small diesel fuelin pump. And be careful, cause that pressure and volume from the truck nozzles will almost knock the bottom outa a pail....be sure to keep it securely decked onna concrete.....the suckler will really scoot accross the station drive...anna attendant really looks atcha like . So's ya buy some soap and detergent anna try to clean his driveway...it was the only decent thing to do. Then we got wiper blades at a Target store in a little town in Tenn. after crawling through a torrential downpour for about 30 miles, just in time for the clouds to break and fair weather to prevail. All in all, we wouldn't take a million dollars for the memories of the trip, but wouldn't pay five bucks to relive the experience Sill laugh our asses off when remembering this stuff.

So, ya wanna experience. Buy a diesel Benz, cross country, sight unseen, go get her and run it on home .

Regards
