How do I drain the Power steering fluid?

Since there's no seach function now I can ask;...How do you drain and refill power steering fluid on an 85 300DT?

Do you need to empty or flush the system? Typically you turn the steering wheel from lock to lock with the front wheels in the air, the engine running and the power steering return hose in a bucket while pouring in new fluid. That won't empty the system, just replace the fluid.

Your original post was about emptying the system. The shop manual procedure for the power steering system is different from the procedure for engine oil and coolant which you drain completely then fill. It's more like the brake fluid procedure in which you use new fluid to push out the old fluid. Subtle difference but I was only guessing that you wanted to have new fluid in the system, not an empty system... as you'd probably want for shipping or as a core return or something like that.

There is no drain hose. You remove the return hose from the reservoir and let it dump into a bucket. Keep filling the reservoir so it doesn't run empty. When what comes out of the return hose looks like what you're pouring in, the old fluid has been flushed from the system.

Uh... what do you mean drain out some old fluid?

If you prefer to do it over time, suck out the fluid in the reservoir and fill with new fluid. Do this every thousand miles and eventually you'll have diluted the old fluid with enough new fluid that it'll be like new. The reservoir holds maybe a cup and a half of fluid.
