Smile 1st post and thankyou

Just a short note, to announce my presence on this forum, and to thank all you who have contributed to my knowledge of these wonderful old cars.

I have lived in Alabama for four years now and was pleased to buy a 1984 300sd from one of the managers where I work and have kept it in fair condition; the Alabama summers are hard on the paint though.

BUT no rust, this is a complete reversal of the 1976 300d that i drove in London as a taxi (minicab) in the mid 1980's (an early 123 body) that spat out its timing chain whilst driving at some 85 mph up the M6 late one night. It took me a while two house moves and 18 months to fix the damage.

Welcome! You've found the best place on the net for free MBZ info. Careful tho, sometimes you get what you pay for.

Check out the site's nifty search feature too. Many questions you have (or may soon have) were probably asked and answered by someone in the past.

I have to say that from my experience here, the good old saying "you get what you pay for" hasn't applied. I've received so much valuable information here that it is crazy to recall that we're all here dishing out all our knowledge for free. As my dad always told me, "knowledge is the only thing you can give out without losing what you're giving." The folks here are just nice and willing to help. As Brian Carlton always says, Help is what we do here.

Everyone here should give themselves a pat on the back. I really don't know where I'd be with my SD if it wasn't for this forum and all the members. What makes it really nice is all the traffic and the lack of smart asses. We get our jabs in here or there but for the most part it is great.

I have done a fair amount of work on my Subaru over the years. I do all my own work on it. I tried to search for a Soob forum and the self proclaimed "ultimate" site is full of a bunch of snot nosed kids and their ricers. You have to search hard there to find someone who actually changes their own oil. That is another thing that sets us apart, probably 90% of us here do our own work.

cheers, gentlemen!

That's something very strange about this forum. Maybe it is something encouraged by the name of the parent website... "Mercedesshop." All the other MB forums I've visited seem to be full of people who just enjoy to customize their cars but still return to the shop for every last bit of service they need. I've also gone on to notice that this doesn't apply just to the other MB forums, it applies to most other forums for different vehicle brands. Whatever it is that created this situation here, I'm lovin' it!

Benz help

Welcome Steve..

I am also new to the forum..but I must say that I have completed many maintenance tasks with complete success. These guys are very knowledgeable. They are ever willing to help with their expertise. My help has allowed me to change my antenna, purge my injectors, change lights, change oil and filters, replace kickdown switch, as well as many other tasks. They have helped me immensely. Just glad to be with these guys. They are polite when a non-diesel owner asks for advice and ever ready to jump in and pull their mental sleeves up for a fellow dieseler.
