What does rear pad wear indicators sound like?

My sdl started making a chirp chirp noise whenever the brakes are applied. The noise is from the RR only. I looked at the pads and although they aren't close to new, there is a bit of pad material left.

I know the fronts have wear indicator lights. I didn't see any electrical connections on the rears. I am wondering if the rears have 'noise' warning system.

The PO had dust covers installed on all 4 wheels. I was under the assumption that dust covers prevented the brakes from cooling properly but my car has had them on for the past 100K and the sevice records don't show more than 1 set of new rotors at 98K. Pads every 35K or so.

I have ordered rear pads.

i dont

think there are any wear sensors on the rear.

some pads are designed to squeak when close to worn out.

Thanks.
That's what I meant by noise indicators.

Now to resurface or not? No pulsing as is.

Their are no wear sensors on the rear because the pads last so long. I'd expect 100k if not more out of a set of rear pads. I know of a few highway driven cars that are coming up on 160k on the original rear brakes.

They are dirt cheap and simple to change just swap them out when you notice they are getting worn down.

I have rear pad wear indicators on my car. When the pad is worn, the brake assembly emits a low cyclic grinding noise, clearly indicating that is time to replace both the pads and rotors.

If you don't notice the sound, the sparks may give you a hint.

if your stops are not

fluttering you can reuse the disc. if it is obviously thin measure the thickness. replace if too thin. the repair manual will say, or someone here will.

Its been my experience to have them warp way before they are "worn thin" or anything.....I hope the new sets I put on both cars last friday and today last a long time

I trashed the kleen shields off the 83's rear wheels today when I changed the stuff, they're especially unnecessary since I used "PBR Organic Deluxe" pads, which aren't even black, they're a beige color, so its not going to show up anyways even if there is dust.

I'd get the rotors turned for $10 each, just for peice of mind... and less of a headach from the noise...
Sorry, thats all I have to add
