alternator light flickers
at random times, under random conditions, and for random duration, the yellow alternator light on the dash will flicker on/off. I have noticed that occasionally (again, with random frequency) when I step on the brakes, the light will come on, until I step off the brake.
this is in an 85 300dt. any help would be greatly appreciated. you guys are benz wizards. |

I've rarely seen intermittent behavior associated with my alternator indicator (which is red, BTW). However, my brake pad indicator (which is yellow/amber) has behaved just as you described with respect to brake pedal application. If your indicator has a circle with some lines outside of it, rather than a auto battery symbol, I think it's time to change your front brake pads.

Your alternator brushes are in that random noisy region between good and bad. If it's like mine they are part of the regulator and cheep and easy to replace.

I agree with Pete, if it's a yellow light with a round symbol, it's your brake wear indicator. It will light when you apply the brakes if your front pads are worn enough. There is no indication for your rear brakes.

Glad to hear it. Pads are easy. So are rotors. Don't be an ignoramus like I was assuming the rotors could last a little longer and I'd need all sorts of special stuff to change them. You can get terrific NEW bolt on rotors for like $40, and it can make a huge difference. - but if they are fine of course, leave them.
