This is a bit weird, but very inventive.

This guy worked hard on this, but it doesn't look very safe.

Geez. It's a good idea, but it's a bad idea. Not sure where to start on that one...

I don't want to be there when the "pusher" tries to pass the car on a corner.

I actually am jealous because I didn't think this up first.
Now let's see;... is he putting the cart before the horse, or the horse before the cart???
I think we need more inovators like this guy instead a generation addicted to video games.

And what's wrong with video games?

It was either lift the truck that way or dig a pit under it.

Back in the 60's I had a neighbor who had to do some work underneath his VW Beetle. I watched him drive it sideways onto a pretty steep bank, got someone to help him and he pushed it over on to its side. He did the repair then he and his helper pushed it upright and off he went. Simple, efficient, out-of-the-box thinking.

The rear third of a Diesel Vanagon would provide cargo room as well.

I am going to go with just weird. Since the guys from Oregon I won't give him credit for inventive as trucks and trains do that all the time getting over the passes there and in the NW.

I don't think so, he is from OHIO

That is what I thought I read, though I have not finished the whole story. But when he started the project, I am sure he says Ohio. I think it is a wonderful contraption. I sure would like to see it up close and in color. Had to go back to veriify it. Yes, he runs down to Jacks VW in West Union, Ohio for parts. Close enough that I might run down during fall break to see the rig. No, wrong again. Now at the end of section 4 he is in Oregon. He just didn't make mention of the move I guess. So he starts in Ohio and ends in Oregon - just didn't report the move.

a rabbit cost only a few dollars less than a 240d?

i think i remember my car being listed somewhere on the internet with a 17k price tag in 1979. that doesnt seem economical to spend mercedes money on a rabbit.

a rabbit, for 16 grand?

in 1981?

i might be way off base to compare, but we bought a ford tempo new in 1989(got 250k out of it too...) for around 12..it was the best tempo one could buy(heh heh...no jokes, a decent lil car, but NO head room)

I think its freakin awesome. I once investigated the "rabbit EV" idea, and it just didnt sound feasable. The diesel pusher makes it so.

Then again, I dig any strange story involving the "misuse" of a diesel engine, like that guy frum utterpower.com who put the Changfa engine in the Geo Metro...
