87 W124 300D low power when cold

when i accelerate from a stop the car will climb to about 3000 rpm with the pedal all the way down but no higher and it never gets the turbo surge, and the shifts are prolonged. once I am driving for about 30 min it drives and accelerates really well. any idea's where too start?

Thanks
Jeff

slow to accelerate

does your mb still have the trap oxidiser on it? those cars were subject to a service campaign where the trap oxidiser was replaced with a straight pipe between the turbo and exhaust down pipe.and a diesel catalitic converter incorperated into the front exhaust pipe as a replacement. it MAY still be under warranty! mb dealer runs a vehicle master inquiry to determin if it qualifys...thats is where I would start ... more info?
