1993 300D 2.5l L-5 Tachometer gauge
Periodically, when tooling around at slow speeds, the tachometer will fall down to nothing and simultaneously the ABS light will come on. Seems like the turbocharger is not on...but within seconds the tach will come back on and the turbo will seem to be engaged. During the abs light and the fallen tach, no apparent power loss is noticeable. Is this a gremlin, or an indicator of voltage drop below 10. Any thoughts? Thanks to all..Iceman

Did you check / clean/replace fuse #5 ?
|
Replace your over voltage relay/protector. It is located behind the battery under the black plastic cover. I had exactly the same problem in my '91. It's about 80 bux and you will never have to check the ABS light before you merge into traffic again.. ;)

Thanks Again
Thanks so much for the help..I'll go to the MB stealership and get me one...thanks again...Iceman

Look it up in FastLane - "Overload Relay" listed under Body Electrical. $77 Dealer might be a bit more, but you won't have to pay the shipping and will have it right away.

Could also be a failing flywheel rpm sensor. I believe it's below the starter.

93 300D 2.5L L-5 made its trip from Charlotte, NC to New Smyrna Beach today...will begin the replacement of the relay tomorrow...I am changing the oil using the topsider and have a fresh fuel filter, in-line filter, oil filter, new air cleaner OEM, and a fresh can of lubri-moly ready...I have also found that a smoking pipe cleaner fits perfectly in the banjo fitting and it always gives up a smidgen of soot. She is washed and waxed and I just bought 4 replacement wheels from pro-player and they are beautiful...will install them within a week...Good to be back and chatting with the dieselers... PS Fuel Prices varied on trip North Carolina $3.19 South Carolina $2.99 Georgia $2.88 Florida $3.29 How in the heck can this stuff vary so much? |
Diesel Beagle
Beagle...How did you know they had upgrades on this part? You were right! The old part was 201 540 3845, the new part number 201 540 3745 for the 93 300D 2.5L. However, the price from the stealership is $118 before taxes. Thanks...and if you have any idea where to get this part and save some money drop me a line.
