New '95 E300D - my first tank mpg

I was going on the theory of my first tank ought to be a tough one - so I drove like I wanted to. 80mph on highway, passing under full throttle when necessary on two-lanes, AC on, and being a little heavy on the throttle from red lights. I figured if I could do well with the mpg on that harshness, then when I baby it (this next tank), I'd see what the spread would be.

Anyway, I ended up with 30.55 mpg on that tankload. I drive probably 75% of the time on the highway, but on my next tank I'm purposely going to go easier - I'm still going to drive 80, but I'll take my sweet time getting there. I can't wait to see what happens.

My family was a Merc family all throughout my growing up; now I'm an owner and I gotta say I really love this car.

Welcome to the E300D family

I too bought a 95 E300D about two months ago. I absolutely love it! This is how I thought a Mercedes should drive. It's a totally different drive and feel from my 83 300SD. I think I'm around 30/31 as you are when I drive like I stole it. On the highway immediately after purchase I got 37. I currently have at least one glow plug that has failed so I'll tackle that soon. Good Luck with yours.

I get 32mpg consistently with a mixe of highway driving and gridlock traffic. On long trips I get 35mpg or so.

I have had my '95 for about a month now, and am averaging around 33 MPG, all my driving is highway with no cruse, and usually around 70-75 MPH. I think it is the greatest.
