E220 Cdi - Garret Turbo - Does It Need A Rebuild?

Finally popped the (now minus the pre-cat) exhaust back and was annoyed to find exhaust gasses still coming out from under the turbo. Due to its location I can't tell if it's due to back-pressure from the exhaust (secondary cat is still in place and I suspect a little blocked from the disintegration from the pre-cat) and hence a leak from the gasket that sits betweent the turbo and down pipe or whether the turbo is leaking from somewhere or whether its the wastegate thats the issue....

Or perhaps if I do something about the secondary cat it will reduce pressure and the turbo may not leak? at about 3000rpms there doesnt seem to be mush coming out the end section of the exhaust at the back of the car...

I hate not knowing!!!! and I hate the fact the MB quote £117/hour for diagnosing the fault! and I hate the fact a new exhaust system is £1500.00!!

Anyway - if the turbo needs a rebuild, any suggestions??
