1st day on B99, 1981 300SD

Decided to try out biodiesel today, there is a station nearby but they keep fuel-wholesalers' hours (6 to 4 M-F) so it's not been convenient to wake up early to fuel up before work. Insomnia struck last night, I was up *very* early. Off to Western States Petroleum... felt like a time warp. Well, what would you call a yard filled with fuel drums, an office which looked like a small rail depot circa 1900, and a absolutely beautiful 1972 220D being filled up ahead of me in line? It made me think of what the diesel scene might have been like in the 1960s!

Hmmm, so far I am very impressed. I have spare filters on board, so I'm not too worried about the cleansing properties of B99. I am blown away by how much quieter the old 617 turbo is now. And less smoke. The "Dr. Diesel intended us to use peanut oil" tale, which I believed before, now seems 100% true. It's like petrodiesel is a poor substitute and this is the "good stuff".

So, let's see. Only 1/2 mile further from my house than my usual petro source, 15c cheaper per gallon, full serve (they don't let you pump your own, hey, keeps the hands clean!), smoother, quieter, more pleasant exhaust odor, and I haven't even brought up the environmental aspect.

So far, I think I'll be setting an early alarm each Friday morning and going to fill up for the week with B99...

biodiesel is great. just be carefully of your fuel lines. That strong of biodiesel might put your rubber lines to the test. I see the true savings in biodiesel when you start making it, but as far as good clean biodiesel goes, hands down it is better on the motor. No questions.

I've been using the B99 from Western States for about a month now...no problems so far. I did replace the fuel filters already and there was some black stuff in the clear prefilter..so keep an eye on them.

But I'm with you...15 cents cheaper at least than regular diesel. And I really like less smoke..sort of white when you do see it.

I think you should also consider doing a blend closer to 50/50.
