coolant question

What is so special about MB coolant? How is it different from regular coolant
with diesel coolant additive? I am planning on doing a citric acid coolant flush soon and would like to know the best to refill with. Thanks for the help. oh, btw Car is an 82 300sd. zach

Supposedly formulated (pH balanced?) to not harm the plastic radiator ends or whatever the core is made of. The 617 block probably doesn't care.

Isn't Diesel coolant additive for Fords that cavitate?

Supposedly it is different and is better for the radiator and plastic parts.

I run it on cars that I care about and plan on keeping. The 300SD has clean looking green coolant and it will stay in their. Maybe I will change it next year.

"Supposedly" Zerex G-05 is the same composition as the M/B coolant. You can buy the Zerex for $10.00 per gallon.........just a bit more costly than Prestone.

Manual is very clear that you must de-oil the cooling system before doing the citric acid flush even if there is no evidence of oil in the system.

Read this:

https://mbwholesaleparts.com/StarTuned/pdfs/AntiFreeDec04.pdf

It mentions that G-05 type coolants are fine. The only ones I've seen (other than MB coolant) are Zerex G-05 and Ford Motorcraft Premium Gold.

There was a really long thread about this that I started awhile ago but was lost due the the forum crash. Bummer.

There was all kinds of good stuff in there with links to technical articles and stuff. I ended up using Prestone Dex Cool becuase it said on the back it was MB certified or something like that. Also because the store said they had G-05, but they didn't, and niether did anyone else. And I needed coolant right then and there. Gimme gimme gimme.

Just to rub some salt in the spelling wound for fun: That is the first time I've seen you spell/use "their" correctly.
