Glow Plugs
When I start my car in the mornings the glow plugs don't stay on long enough. I have to turn the key back and forth at least three or four times for the car to have a chance at starting. Is there anyway of fixing such a problem? The car is an 81 300SD.
Thanks in advance, yet again. chad |

Glow plug condition?
How old are the glow plugs? The GP system should only take one cycle and then fire, unless you have one or more bad GP's or then something else. Start with the GP's first.
FastLane sells two German GP's that will work for your car, Beru or Bosch. I used to cycle my Ford diesel F-250 truck 2-3 times, until I got smart and replaced all the GP's with OEM Beru, now it fires right up everytime. Good luck, Hugh

The glow plug lamp will go out after 5-15 seconds, but the glow plugs stay on for a total of about 30-45 seconds.
Easy test: watch your dome lamp. It will dim when you turn the key, it will brighten 30 seconds later... Turn the key, wait 10 seconds after the lamp goes out and start it. Let us know. |

My mom's father-in-law bought it new, then my mom's husband had it for a while, and now it's mine. First week I had it someone hit the drivers door and took off! Other than that the body is great. As for the interior, the backseat needs to be redone and a couple of minor things. I love that iconic big body Benz look. My goal is to get it back to it's original posh condition. Thanks in advance for the help. |
